Get To Know Pawn Souls

Stuff About Us...

Pawn Souls are: Nelson, Tom, Dustin, and Doug. The current lineup has been around since the beginning of the year 2000. It all started out with Tom and Doug. They've been playing and making music with each other for 2 years now and they both started at the same time. They've pretty much grown up as musicians together, but they're still improving and always will be. After finally deciding to be a metal band, they went through several bass players and vocalists, trying to find someone that would fit. In November of '99, they tried out Nelson Mulligan. He was the best meatl vocalist of all the ones that tried out. They quickly began getting him up to speed and teaching him things to improve as well. Nelson was cool, he knew lots of people, and his stage performance was explosive. The now-trio played their first gig on December 30, 1999 at Nelson's party. Ben, the bass player at the time and a member of the early Pawn Souls, couldn't make it to the party. They let anybody that could play bass play with them. This included a couple of ex-bassists as well. One bassist, however, caught the attention of the band and some of the audience members too. It was Dustin Craig. After viewing a tape of the performance, Tom turned to Doug with his mouth dropped saying "Oh my god, we have to get him!" Dustin was amazing. He learned the songs so fast and played with a style the band thought they'd never find in a bassist. They got Dustin and the sound of the band just got better and more heavier.

What makes a song a Pawn Souls song? In each song we try to use one or more elements to writing music that will keep you interested. The key to our composition is to give a song A) Tempo change B) Dynamic change C) Time change D) Weird-ass effects E) Fast-paced tempos or F) Groove. We try to take all of these elements and blend and mold them into songs. Usually we can get most of them in, but it doesn't always happen. That doesn't matter though, as long as there's enough to make the song interesting.

Our influences come from everything we listen to. We all listen to all types of Metal along with Punk, Rock, Underground, and Classical. Our wide range of influences is clear when you listen to us. Very few of our songs sound the same. The only true common links between them are that they're mainly heavy and fast, although we do have sections that mellow out on some songs.
